SECTION 4  FIRST AID MEASURES

Description of necessary first aid measures

If inhaled: If breathed in, move person into fresh air. If not breathing, give artificial respiration. Consult a physician.

In case of skin contact: Wash off with soap and plenty of water. Consult a physician.

In case of eye contact: Rinse thoroughly with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes and consult a physician.

If swallowed: Never give anything by mouth to an unconscious person. Rinse mouth with water. Consult a physician.

Most important symptoms and effects, both acute and delayed: Absorption into the body leads to the formation of methemoglobin which in sufficient concentration causes cyanosis. Onset may be delayed 2 to 4 hours or longer.

Indication of immediate medical attention and special treatment needed:/

SECTION 5  FIREFIGHTING MEASURES

Suitable extinguishing media: Use water spray, alcohol-resistant foam, dry chemical or carbon dioxide.

Special hazards arising from the chemical: Will not burn but increases intensity of fire. Heating may cause expansion or decomposition leading to violent rupture of containers.

Special protective actions for fire-fighters: Wear self-contained breathing apparatus for firefighting if necessary.

SECTION 6  ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES

Personal precautions, protective equipment and emergency procedures: Use personal protective equipment. Avoid dust formation. Avoid breathing vapors, mist or gas. Ensure adequate ventilation. Evacuate personnel to safe areas. Avoid breathing dust.

Environmental precautions: Prevent further leakage or spillage if safe to do so. Do not let product enter drains.

Methods and materials for containment and cleaning up: Sweep up and shovel. MINOR SPILLS: Clean up all spills immediately. Contain and absorb spill with dry sand, earth, inert material or vermiculite. Scoop up solid residues and seal in labeled drums for disposal. MAJOR SPILLS: Clear area of personnel and move upwind. Contain spill with sand, earth or other clean, inert materials. Collect any recoverable product into labeled containers for possible recycling. Collect residues and seal in labeled drums for disposal. Wash area and prevent runoff into drains. If contamination of drains or waterways occurs advise emergency services.

SECTION 7  HANDLING AND STORAGE

Precautions for safe handling: Avoid contact with skin and eyes. Avoid formation of dust and aerosols.

Provide appropriate exhaust ventilation at places where dust is formed. Keep away from sources of ignition

- No smoking. Keep away from heat and sources of ignition. Normal measures for preventive fire protection.

Conditions for safe storage, including any incompatibilities: Store in cool place. Keep container tightly closed in a dry and well-ventilated place.

SECTION 8  EXPOSURE CONTROLS/PERSONAL PROTECTION

Control parameters: /

Appropriate engineering controls: Local exhaust ventilation usually required. If risk of overexposure exists, wear an approved respirator. Correct fit is essential to obtain adequate protection an approved self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) may be required in some situations. Provide adequate ventilation in warehouse or closed storage area.

Personal protective equipment

Eye/face protection: Safety glasses with side shields. Chemical goggles. Contact lenses may pose a special hazard; soft contact lenses may absorb and concentrate irritants.

Skin protection: Wear chemical protective gloves, eg. PVC. Wear safety footwear or safety gumboots, eg. Rubber. Impervious clothing, Flame retardant antistatic protective clothing, The type of protective equipment must be selected according to the concentration and amount of the dangerous substance at the specific workplace.

Respiratory protection: Respirators may be necessary when engineering and administrative controls do not adequately prevent exposures.

SECTION 11  TOXICOLOGICAL INFORMATION

Acute health effects

Ingestion: Accidental ingestion of the material may be harmful; animal experiments indicate that ingestion of less than 150 gram may be fatal or may produce serious damage to the health of the individual.

Inhalation: The material can cause respiratory irritation in some persons. The body's response to such irritation can cause further lung damage. Persons with impaired respiratory function, airway diseases and conditions such as emphysema or chronic bronchitis, may incur further disability if excessive concentrations of particulate are inhaled.

Skin: This material can cause inflammation of the skin on contact in some persons. The material may accentuate any pre-existing dermatitis condition. Open cuts, abraded or irritated skin should not be exposed to this material. Entry into the blood-stream, through, for example, cuts, abrasions or lesions, may produce systemic injury with harmful effects. Examine the skin prior to the use of the material and ensure that any external damage is suitably protected.

Eyes: This material can cause eye irritation and damage in some persons.

Chronic health effects: Long-term exposure to respiratory irritants may result in disease of the airways involving difficult breathing and related systemic problems.

Numerical measures of toxicity(such as acute toxicity estimates):

LD50 Oral - rat - 1.267 mg/kg

LD50 Oral - rabbit - 2.680 mg/kg
